Transforming scientific innovations into practical solutions

From insight to innovation

Behind every new technology, from the wheel to the microchip, lies a scientific insight.

ASL is an applied-sciences lab. We are the offspring of Washington State University’s Institute for Shock Physics (ISP).

ISP performs theoretical, or fundamental, scientific research, primarily for agencies of the U.S. departments of Defense and Energy.

As its applied-research counterpart, ASL works with client/partners in government and industry to produce practical applications from theoretical research.

We are self-sustaining and contract-based.

Expertise to solve big challenges

• ASL offers expertise in:
   o Materials sciences
   o Optical sciences
   o Computer modeling and simulations

• Our primary areas of inquiry are:
   o Energy
   o National security
