Mission
| Historically, the path from insight to innovation has meandered through happenstance, accident and fortune. But science has made the process intentional. At the Institute for Shock Physics (ISP) in Pullman, Wash., researchers simulate the extreme conditions found in nature to understand how materials function at the most fundamental levels. The Applied Sciences Lab was founded in 2004 to provide an applied-sciences dimension to their work. |
Our MissionTo grow a self-sustaining, multidisciplinary contract research organization that links academic research to practical applications. |
The academic
ASL links university research with the practical needs of government and industry.
On WSU’s Pullman, Wash., campus, ISP is principally responsible for fundamental research, and for the education and mentoring of graduate students.
The mission of the ASL extends well beyond the ISP’s focus on shock-wave science. It is staffed with internationally recognized entrepreneurial researchers who:
- Are client focused
- Work as interdisciplinary problem-solving teams
- Take on projects whose delivery times range from several months out, to three or more years, based on client requirements
