Optical Measurements.
Testing and characterization of novel or advanced materials is a key component of ASL's multidisciplinary research. In addition, companies and university researchers have access to the facilities and specialized equipment in the laboratory. These capabilities allow microstructure characterization and measurement of various physical properties such as elastic constants. The equipment and tools can be utilized broadly for most materials including metals, polymers, ceramics and composites. The capabilities are designed to help improve fundamental understanding of materials, specifically the micro-structure property relationships. The testing and characterization capabilities can be utilized for failure analysis and to a certain extent for quality control and assurance.
