Synthesis and Processing Laboratory
High Pressure Synthesis Laboratory

As part of its vision for application oriented multi-disciplinary research, ASL is developing capabilities for the synthesis and processing of advanced materials. The in-house processing capabilities provide a solid foundation for the purpose of applying scientific know-how into practical technological problems. As the synthesis of advanced materials is becoming more sophisticated and utilizes more scientific know-how, a fundamental understanding of material synthesis plays a crucial role in developing practical solutions to technological challenges. By providing in-house processing capabilities, ASL helps to foster an intimate interaction among researchers from various disciplines including chemistry, materials science, mechanics and computational modeling. ASL’s plan to develop processing capabilities is two fold. First is to improve the understanding between processing-microstructure and processing-property relationships and as such to improve the current processing methods. Second is to develop novel processing methods for the discovery and development of new advanced materials and apply these developments to various technological challenges and client-specific applications.
